My friend Tasnim Akhtar passed away June 23, 2016. The love of self and tenacity she had to fight for underprivileged people of color inspired me to really work on unlearning European aesthetic ideals in my work. She was Bangladeshi and loved her culture unapologetically just like I do mine. She also attended the University of Texas at Austin and is one of the most brilliant people I've ever met. Rest in peace, power, and paradise.
